Aldactone/ Spirnolactone

Today I was having a rough day at work, I did not shower..and when I don't I feel like everyone thinks I am balding. I feel like my hair is thinner than usual when I do not shower. When I worry about my hair I get anxious, and feel upset.

Anyways.. This post hits the nail on the head for me. I have been using spirnolactone since January 2011, and in the summer as of June 2011 I was bumped up to 2 pills a day of 100mg. When starting out with this medication I had to make sure I drank, and ate enough because I fainted twice because my blood sugar would drop when using this pill. I avoid foods high in potassium because potassium supplements with this medication may cause excessive potassium levels and damage the kidney. My endocriniologist tried to get me on monixidle 5% with the spirnolactone, and I refused. I go back to my endocriniologist next week to see if she has noticed a difference and from there I may be sent to a hair specialist in TORONTO ONTARIO (wish me luck:) ) Not that I ever had acne, but I do notice my face is clearer than it has ever been since I started using spirnolactone. I also used to just nair my little mustache off because my hair is soo dark, and i rarely need to do that anymore. I do not have excessive body hair anywhere else but it works for the mustache I used to get so I believe it would work with excessive body hair. Because it is a diuretic it reduces water, and salt in the body, and this med plus my metaformin has helped me loss weight so it is clearly noticable. I am taking it for hairloss because it is supposed to reduce androgens in women and decrease loss, slow it down, and give time for regrowth. I was told it takes up to six months, but I have been on it longer and still feel as though the reason I use it has not changed. I still have hope becuase I have heard from women it took two years to see beneficial regrowth but I just wish I had a sign...Another thing that gets me is one of the minor side effects with this med is said to be hairloss.. Could the doctor be helping the symptom I hate and fear the most? Or is it hairloss before regrowth..I guess I will never know until somethimg happens.

The said Benefits of Aldactone/ Spirnolactone:

  • Reduces androgen levels
  • reduces hair loss
  • helps with acne
  • reduces male pattern hair growth
Now don't get me wrong many women have told me this is a wonderful medication, and it did wonders for them, and that is the reason I still have hope! I recommend this medication to anyone with the symptoms it has been proven to benefit.

One more thing I find with Spirnolactone is that I am thirsty more often than usual, so it really helps me get in the 8 glasses of water each day :)
