Two Hard weeks! No Carbs**

No pasta, no rice, no bread, no yogurt, no pop, no potatoes,no popcorn, no chips, no cookies, no fruit, no popsicles, no candy, no icecream, no milk, NO FAST FOOD, no corn, no cake, no crackers, no hot chocolate, no sugar, no ketchup, no relish, no carby salad dressings, no cottage cheese, no juice,no cream cheese, no sour cream,no sweet and sour sauce, no barbeque sauce. Sounds like a lot of "NO's " but this is called low carbing no carbing.

I did a no carbing/ low carbing healthy eatting for two weeks... and trust me it was hard! But well worth it :) So For two weeks I drank nothing but Water!! and Green Tea with nothing in it. You can add lemon to your water or green tea once every 2 days if youd like :) I no I said no fruit but lemon water is real good for us. In order for me to not eat other junk I prepared my daily snack, and lunches the night before because I would work the next day. I am aware that Dairy is bad for some of us but I ate alot of cheese for the 2 week no carb/low carb. I cut the brick cheese up or shred it. I would try to eat a snack every two hours so my blood sugar would not drop and I would be extremely hungery. The key to this healthy eatting is you count nothing but the carbs. NO FAT, NO CALORIES. I slighty followed the ATKIN rules. So how it works.. you eat a lot of protein that way your body turns in to a fat burning machine. I did not skip meals! Breakfast is crucial it starts up your metabolism. I ate salad every dinner.. and sometimes at lunch! with usually a little ceasar dressing or and oil based one. I tried not to eat after 8pm.. if you are still hungry try to eat things like EGGS,pickles, califlower or tuna with carbfree MAYO HELLMANS MAYO. I always used some sort of cooking oil instead of butters. You will also notice that alot of the things are repeat because they all help.

The first week is crucial to us ladies.. It is make or brake time.. and your body is getting used to the protein and no more sugar or carbs... So even cheating a little in the 1st week is a NO, NO!

When I noticed my hair falling out I wanted to try anything to stop it and restart regrowth and I know the foods listed in what I ate may not sound ideal they help. So you need to ask yourself how bad do you really want it?

The few things i cut up and brought with me daily as snacks to mix and match were cheese, peppers, celery, cucumber, olives, pickles.

ONE THING... if you do like olives they are considered a treat. I personally buy the ones that have no carbs but if you do not limit your olive consumption

If you notice my week you will see I do not change vegetable a lot and that is because the ones I selected have a good net carb that I did not mind.

celery one stalk                     .8  net carbs
cucumber  half cup                 1 net carb
brocolii  raw   half cup           1 net carb
calliflower  raw half cup         1 net carb
peppers  raw half cup            2.3 net carbs
spinach half cup raw             .2 net carbs
mushrooms half cup              1.2 net carbs

As for Vegetable such as

tomatoes they have             4.3 net carbs  per tomatoe
corn ..doesnt even make the list it is too starchy.

So as you can see.. if you just mix it up the second week with what I have provided you will be fine. BECAuse I think you can tell I just switched it up a little daily.

WHEN YOU are done your first week treat yourself try the EGG PIZZA YUM!! The hardest thing for me was bread but I did it.. close after was the pasta! Its hard but very DOABLE!!

*Hirsutism..too much Hair*

Hair here hair there, hair everywhere. Hair on my toes hair on my nose, hair where nobody knows. Hair on my chin , it's hair that isn't the size of a pin. Hair on my cheeks hair between the sheets. I have hair on my belly hair on my back, hair in my elbow crack. I dont know why i have this hair, it just doesnt seem fair...and is very unclear..it makes my eyes tear. Ladies this is called hirsutism..and its one of the lovely symptoms of pcos! Not...

Hirsutism is a common symptom and very distressing for all women. It is in the same catergory with hair loss however, instead of loss..tooo much. It usually occurs in women producing excessive amounts of androgens which are male hormones like testosterone. There are certain ways to help or prevent this symptom of pcos. The first one I want to throw out there is weight loss. Yes, I may sound like your doctor but it really does help relieve our symptoms. When you lose weight and notice your periods are more regular you will see a reduction in the symptom or it may even dissappear. With weight loss you can decrease the amount of androgens which will reduce hair.  When the doctor told me to lose weight I did not think that would solve my problem however it has helped me tremendously. Yes, it is hard but well worth it.

Two huge medications I could suggest are spirnolactone, and saw palmetto. One is prescribed the other one you can pick up at a health food store. Spirnolactone prevents testosterone produced by our bodies. It is an antiandrogen.  I currently take 200mg a day. The key to this medication because it is also a diuretic is to keep yourself completely hydrated and you can do this just from water. Saw palmetto is store boughten I take 1 pill a day and never go over 320 mgs. Due to the fact DHT is made from testosteron and causes hirsutism saw palmetto prevents DHT. DHT comes from an eynzme in our bodies called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme is prevented with the use of Saw Palmetto. You may have heard Saw Palmetto is used for men with prostate cancer, and it is but is also a great treatment for women with male pattern baldness, and HIRSUTISM. Women with pcos have much more chance of 5-alpha-reductase enzymes than those who do not so we are at a higher risk for hirsutism. Saw Palmetto reduces DHT in 3 ways...Prevents DHT productions, prevents DHT from binding to its cell receptors, and promotes the breakdown of DHT. If you want to go one step further you could use Saw Palmetto with stinging nettle root, and pygeum for your treatment. I use Spirnolactone, and Saw Palmetoo together because I believe one compliments the other for me.

Saw Palmetto is cheaper than any medications, and is freee of side effects!!

It may take up to six months to see improvement with treatments because hair follicles have a cyles of 6 months.

Oral Contreceptives also help us with a symptom such as this because it helps regulate our menstral cycles and hormones. I just got a prescribtion of Diana 35 that I am waiting for my next cycle to start, and right now I am using alessa.

Time for that unwantedness to Disappear!..Cysters you can do it.

Foods that may help:
  • Cinnamon
  • Green tea
  • Licorice Root
  • Lettuce
  • Spearmint
I mix cinnamon in with my cup of green tea on a regular basis, you can also add it to cooking anything really. Cereal..meat..veggies.Just throw some in.

Just a reminder Ladies I love your suggestions for blogs, and feedback. Never feel alone I enjoy talking :) Court.

CRAVINGS..the unwanted

I've been depressed all day, I have not aten since last night and it is now 3pm, I have been crying all day, I can restart my healthy eatting on Monday, Maby I'll have just one...These are all reasons some of us may give into the temptation of a craving.

The truth is you have to train yourself or adjust your body to no longer crave certain things. A craving only lasts a few minutes so if you do not give in right away it should pass. While you are waiting you may want to indulge in a huge glass of water, or a protein filled snack. Protein, and water will also help you get through the craving. Us women with Pcos have severe sugar or carbrohydrate cravings due to imbalances in our insulin and glucose. Due to the imbalances we face spikes in our bloodsugar levels. What that does is sends our brain singnals stating we are still hungry, and can cause excessive eatting and make us have a hard time losing weight.

When I went on my very low or carb free diet for three weeks I had to deal with cravings. My diet consisted of maby 20 to 25 carbs a day for 3 weeks! Not counting the carbs in dark green veggies of course. The first three days I craved candy, and cake, and pop soo bad. When I was hungry I would eat olives or pickles they really helped my craving pass. I also drank tons of water, probally more than eight glasses a day now that I think about it. I avoided pop, anything high in carbs, and candy for three days. When I managed that the cravings really were not as hard anymore. Although I did work in a youth emergency shelter so they would always have high carb meals and these would be my triggers but I would indulge in fish, or chicken, tuna, and eggs this would help me get through the dinners. They would have potatoes, rice, cake, pasta, corn, hambergur buns..If I could get through all of this you can to!! When bread was ate I would eat whatever was being put in the bread and just avoid the bread. I also ate all three meals, and than three healthy snacks within the day.

What you need to do*

Eat at regular intervals. Do not skip meals..Breakfast is key! When you skip a meal your letting your blood sugar levels fall. Levels falling cause cravings. DO NOT SKIP MEALS!!

Avoid your triggers. Such as the Environment. If that is unavoidable pack a nice protein filled snack

Increase your intake on high fibre good foods. Or whole grains these will keep you fuller longer. Rember If you are looking at the carb intake you minus the fibre intake.

Reduce your intake of caffeinated beverages. NO coffee, Tea, or soft drinks unless they are decaffeinated. Like my green Tea :)

Tips:

  • Chose Low GI carbs
  • avoid sugar and salt
  • pickeles and apples suppresss your appeteite
  • cravings only last a few minutes
  • do not give in right away
  • healthy foods keep you sattisfied longer
VEGETABLES! LOTS& LOTS! AND LOTS :)

STAY STRONG STAY POSITIVE, AND DROP THAT TWINKIE! WE CAN DO THIS ONE STEP AT A TIME.

Stress Management

Ugh, I have soo much on my mind I don't know what to do!! Money, Bills, Work, Family, car, school, health, my hair falling out, my acne break outs, the hair on my face, and the fact that I have been trying to have a kid what seems like forever not to mention I can not lose this weight!! My minds always racing I have trouble sleeping, and I now find that I always have so much on my mind that I have become anxious in large groups of people..What happened to me?

Does this sound like you? On some days it sounds like me too! I believe the definition for all this fun stuff is called STRESS..the key to it all is figuring out how to manage it all. That is where Stress Management comes in.

With Pcos cysters stress can be one of our main symptoms. It could be the reason were not losing weight, the reason were beign eatting, the reason we are having trouble having children, the reason we've developed anxiety, and the reason we become depressed. In order to improve Pcos it is crucial to control our stress to help relieve symptoms of pcos or even eliminate some. Stress fits right in with Nutrition, Excercise, and sleep when we are trying to manage our PCOS.

When I'm stressed out the things I do to relieve stress are: visit friends/family, write, read, play video games, scrapbook, atv, drink wine with my girlfriend, cook, play with my cats, or just get out like shopping.

Other things that relieve stress...
  • Green Tea
  • Taking breaks
  • using humor
  • excercise (YOGA)
  • mediation
  • better communication
  • reviewing your priorities in life
  • removing stressful situations/people/objects out of your life
  • taking care of your body
  • expressing your feelings
  • wearing comfortable clothes
  • Eatting meals slowly
  • avoid being overwhelmed
  • sleep
  • good attitude
  • change your point of view
It all seems pretty straight forward right? Well take a look at the list mine, and other stress relievers how many of those can you say you do more that 5 times a week? I like to give myself me time everyday weather it be to just gather my thoughts, sit by the river, or read It really does help. Once you reduce the stress in your life you will be able to work on the things you were previously stressed out about.

Stress is not good for your health overall. When you have pcos if your always letting out the stress hormone CORTISOL it can contribute to anxiety, and depression.Stress hormones make blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar levels rise. Stress affects our overall health.. so don't let stress be your downfall.

Negatives of Stress...
  • Stress increases eatting
  • weight gain
  • cysts
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • less sexual desire
  • affects fertility by affecting your reproductive system
  • stress hormone cortisol contributes to belly fat
  • Heart disease
  • Acne
  • menstral problems

**Lemon water**

You thirsty? Grab a glass of water... and well add some lemon :) It's just that simple..and now you have a healthy refreshing beverage waiting for you to drink. Easy, Cheap, Healthy, and Tasty MmmM, what more can we ask for.

Lemons and Water are both very beneficial to us pcos women, but not only us everyone! When you put a slice of lemon in your water you know end up with lemon water. Lemon water is beneficial for the way we look, and the way we feel. How healthy we are..Both lemon and water have different actions that they play upon our bodies. They help flush out the toxins in our system through our urine.

Lemons are acidic which than turns into alkaline while in your body. Alkaline give you more energy, makes you have less food cravings during the day, and instead of coffee you can use alkaline foods for energy in the morning. Lemons and green vegetables are helpful when you are alkalizing your body. The more lemons you consume the more energetic, healthier, you will look and feel. For example your skin is unable to look healthy if your body is full of toxins. So, if you do have ance as a pcos symptom you could always try to add more lemons to your diet.

Water Component number 1....
  • helps digestion and constipation
  • helps fight the flu & heart attack
  • relieves fatigue
  • reduces risk of cancer
  • better excercise because it helps fuel your muscles
  • look your with healthier skin
  • natural remedy for headaches
  • lose weight
  • correctly functioning kidneys& liver
  • flushes out toxins
  • improves nutrient delivery
And we can't forget its .... Refreshing mmmmmm

Lemons Second Component.....
  • fights against infections& prevents them
  • deactivates free radicals preventing diseases
  • lowers blood pressure
  • increases good cholesterol HDL
  • relieves gingivitis
  • relieves colic pain
  • helps gastric problems
  • prevents dehydration
  • whitens teeth& removes plaque
Did you know??

Hot water and lemons clear you digestive system...

Lemons have 0 carbs( not the squeeze juice lemon)......

lemon juice put on exsisting pimples dries them up than prevents new ones...

Lemon juice with a pinch of salt every morning lowers cholesterol levels& lowers weight aswell.......

So another words all together if you go over all the benefits why would you not want to add lemon water into your daily diet.. ARE YOU CRAZY? give it a try :)

In Cunclusion, summing it all up. Lemon water has powerful healing properities, high in vitamin c,reduces urinary track infections, helps weight loss***, purifies your liver, cleans your system of all impurities, has calcium in it, is good for your skin, and decreases the amount of phlegm you produce.

Soooo when life throws you lemons.. Dont throw them back.. just shut up and eat your LEMONS!!! :D

Calcium, a little something we all need*

Hey Hey ladies !!
First of all I want to say I hope all my American friends had a great thanksgiving, and I hope you all had the chance to realize a few things you are thankful for:) I know for me I am thankful that my family is all still healthy, I am thankful to have a wonderful girlfriend, the roof over my head, the jobs that college allowed me to get, and the fact that each and everyday I am learning to deal with pcos more and more and managing it..not to mention I am thankful for all my Cysters!!

So for me when I drink a glass of Milk any kind of milk that is I get an instant headache. Unable to drink soy milk, 2%, 1%, or skim. My mom insists that it may be too cold however Ive recently tried warm milk still the same. Funny thing is I love tea, and I am able to get milk in my tea without feeling crappy so maby its the amount I am trying to drink. Anyways as you all know Dairy is not good for us women with pcos other than some types of cheeses. Dairy can mess with our hormones because of the hormones in cows. Most of our milk comes from pregnant cow which are pumped full of steroids which leads to its own hormones and gives us them in our dairy. Dairy milk may increase blood levels of insulin & and promote Ance, and other pcos symptoms. Cows milk contains steroids and hormones that can all only be broken down into one thing for us pcos ladies.. and that is DHT!! Yikes (n) and that is one thing women with pcos do not need more of. So another words all dairy except some chesses actually help stimulate high insulin levels in us. As you can see so far dairy is not good for us. Try and do a low carb diet with no dairy to help relieve symptoms and increase weight loss.

I know what your thinking! What about calcium right? Well the truth is Yes, us women with pcos still need calcium. We can find it in other sources rather than dairy products. Dark leafy greens like Kale and sea vegetable offer calcium. Here is some none dairy choices for us: Spinach, seasame seeds, collard greens, kelp, broccoli, oranges, almonds, flaxseeds, celery, bok choy, and kale. I dont know about you ladies, but I love celery, broccoli, almonds, and spinach. Also did you know that lemons have calcium in them :) No really they do. The calcium content in lemons is 43.5 milligrams per 100g. That makes drinking my two cups of lemon water a day even more useful. If none of these foods seem good to you, you can always try calcium supplements. Some tips on calcium supplements are do not take more than 500mg at once and try to spread your dose over the day, take with food, take a vitamin C supplement at the same time, if you are taking iron supplements take the iron one 2 hours before or after the calcium for good absorbtion.
No CALCIUM= HIGH RISK OF OSTEOPOROSIS!!

BENEFITS OF CALCIUM:
  • IMPROVES INSULIN SENSITIVITY
  • HELPS WITH WEIGHT LOSS
  • HELPS INSOMNIA
  • HELPS HEART DISEASE PREVENTION
  • TREATS HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Things that will lead to excessive calcium loss include:
  • Alcohol
  • white flour
  • junk food
  • caffeine

So instead of going for milk and cookies, go for some celery with peanut butter on it..and a nice glass of lemon water!! Enjoy ladies

Rosemary/ Doctors updates :)

Hey cysters!!

I'm back:) When I was in kitchener I went to visit two of my doctors one was my family doctor who diagnosed me, and the other was my endocriniologist. The family doctor finally noticed I lost weight, and instead of telling me to lose weight he told me I am a lot smaller. I told him I was getting my period three times a month now, and well he explained when your getting your period regularly that the cysts on the ovaries are usually gone. I am getting blood work done just to make sure that is the case. After that he told me I had to get more blood work done to see if I prediabetic still because he believes I will no longer be prediebetic and he can start weining me off the metformin :) All good so far eh!! Than on wed I went to see my endocriniologist and she told me that she was going to lower my dose of spirnolactone because she saw new hair growth and that it was working!! I convinced her to let more grow in before taking me off the med! Than after that she prescribed me birth control diana 35. She explained to me I may be bleeding more than regular because I am taking 200mg of spirnolactone daily and this birth control pill will help. I was super excited because I have only heard good things about Diana 35 and how it helps in treatments for many symptoms. I had previously asked my family doctor for Diana 35 while on spirnolactone and he refused. Due to the fact I am now going to be using both medications I have to go check my potassium levels in my body. I will not being going back to the endocriniologist for 6 months because she thinks things have improved. Than after that good news I found out I got the fulltime job at the group home and start next week!!! No more factory jod:) just two child and youth worker jobs, and that is what I love doing.... SO three wonderful wonderful days! I hope you've all been doing great.

As Promised ....

Hot Flashes*

I started work today at 8 am, and within a half hour I started having real bad cramps and burning up. I was only wearing a t-shirt and everyone else was wearing sweaters yet I was stilll hot. I worked for about an hour before I felt wozzy, and like I was going to vommit because I was so hot. I told my supervisor what was happening and was sent home sick. After being at home for awhile I had diarreah all day and was still feeling nausea. I have heard Pcos shares common symptoms with early menopause, and I have experienced hot flashes before but not recently. When I just started taking Spirnolactone, and I would faint i would get real hot prior to fainting, however I did not feel like I was going to faint today. My thyroid has been checked by my doctor and they said the results on that were fine, and I am aware having thyroid issues causes hot flashes, but that is not my case. Women I have spoke with that also have pcos tell me they experience hot flashes aswell, although this is not a common symptom it still is a pcos symptom. From my understanding we experience hot flashes and they are normal for pcos women because our hormones fluctuate because we have pcos and sometimes go all out of wack causing us women to experience the unwelcome hotflashes that I absolutely hate.

Certain ways to avoid hotflashes:
  • diet & excercise in combination with the pill
  • evening primrose oil
  • vitex may help
  • black cohosh
  • and checking thyroid
Vitex
- Also known as chaste tree or chasteberry is a well known herb that has been used for centuries for hormonal imbalances in women. This herb can be taken daily up to 18 mnths unless pregnancy occurs, and also may take up to 3 month to see results. you can use vitex in an extract or in liquid droplets.

Benefits:
  • corrects menstral cycles
  • hot flashes
  • helps with acne
  • fertility improved
  • regulates balance of estrogen and proestrogen
  • depression relief
  • reduce chance of miscarriage
  • gets rid of the cysts on the ovaries
If you notice diet and excercise are said to help all of our symptoms. Due to the fact I am at a weight that I enjoy and do not want to lose more weight I believe my choice is going to be to get a little more physical daily by excercising.  Hopefully this helped some of you ladies out and gave you info on hot flashes that come with pcos. :)

SuperBerries :)

Today I was in walmart, and I saw a drink I've always wanted to try but thought they were priced to high for a little bottle, and now they're on sale!! So I'm pretty sure you could guess today was one of the days I drank something other than green tea and water. I drank a little Acai Berry Smoothie..and mmm was it good. I was aware acai berries are good for you in soo many ways and wanted to try it so I finally did. I'm really into the nutrition part of pcos, and relieving symptoms so I believe superfoods are amazing to help with this condition, and acai berries are a superfood along with Maca. There is different superfoods I am still just finding out about and the classic ones most of us already know. The ones I am just hearing about are hard to find, however most health food stores do sell them in the pill, or powder form, and if you can find a healthy nutrition grocery store you should be able to find them in there aswell. One superfood that I have know for awhile is blueberries, and that is simply because they are my favourite!! Blueberries are easy to find, usually priced well, can be added to anything, and taste good.

SuperFoods:

Blueberries
  • great source of antioxidants
  • good source of dietary fibre
  • some iron
  • vitamin C
Antioxidants in foods are great for our overall well being. These compounds help fight certain diseases such as cancer, and heart disease. Supplements containing antioxidants are said to promote greater health.

Acai Berry
  • packed with antioxidants
  • minoacids's
  • omega 3's
  • aid in weight loss
  • energy
Omega 3's can benefit heart disease, diabetes, and depression

Goji Berry
  • impact on human health
  • promote performance
  • reduce disease
  • gives protein
Unlike any other fruit, this fruit contains protein. Eat like raisins or put some in your soup or salad. Goji Berries are small red berries that sometimes get mistaken for raisins. When eatting this berry raw you are getting a sufficiant amout of protein, dietary fibre, fat, and carbs. It is a good combination of them all.

Try adding some superfoods into your diet just like I have.

...Too bad strawberries, and rasberries didn't make the cut (N)

Aldactone/ Spirnolactone

Today I was having a rough day at work, I did not shower..and when I don't I feel like everyone thinks I am balding. I feel like my hair is thinner than usual when I do not shower. When I worry about my hair I get anxious, and feel upset.

Anyways.. This post hits the nail on the head for me. I have been using spirnolactone since January 2011, and in the summer as of June 2011 I was bumped up to 2 pills a day of 100mg. When starting out with this medication I had to make sure I drank, and ate enough because I fainted twice because my blood sugar would drop when using this pill. I avoid foods high in potassium because potassium supplements with this medication may cause excessive potassium levels and damage the kidney. My endocriniologist tried to get me on monixidle 5% with the spirnolactone, and I refused. I go back to my endocriniologist next week to see if she has noticed a difference and from there I may be sent to a hair specialist in TORONTO ONTARIO (wish me luck:) ) Not that I ever had acne, but I do notice my face is clearer than it has ever been since I started using spirnolactone. I also used to just nair my little mustache off because my hair is soo dark, and i rarely need to do that anymore. I do not have excessive body hair anywhere else but it works for the mustache I used to get so I believe it would work with excessive body hair. Because it is a diuretic it reduces water, and salt in the body, and this med plus my metaformin has helped me loss weight so it is clearly noticable. I am taking it for hairloss because it is supposed to reduce androgens in women and decrease loss, slow it down, and give time for regrowth. I was told it takes up to six months, but I have been on it longer and still feel as though the reason I use it has not changed. I still have hope becuase I have heard from women it took two years to see beneficial regrowth but I just wish I had a sign...Another thing that gets me is one of the minor side effects with this med is said to be hairloss.. Could the doctor be helping the symptom I hate and fear the most? Or is it hairloss before regrowth..I guess I will never know until somethimg happens.

The said Benefits of Aldactone/ Spirnolactone:

  • Reduces androgen levels
  • reduces hair loss
  • helps with acne
  • reduces male pattern hair growth
Now don't get me wrong many women have told me this is a wonderful medication, and it did wonders for them, and that is the reason I still have hope! I recommend this medication to anyone with the symptoms it has been proven to benefit.

One more thing I find with Spirnolactone is that I am thirsty more often than usual, so it really helps me get in the 8 glasses of water each day :)

Low Carbing/ Healthy Eatting

Hey Cyster's
I just wanted to share I was 161 when the doctors told me I had to loss weight to relieve my symptoms of pcos. I was never obese or did I look extremely big but they said that would help with hairloss. I decieded to change my life around and stick to low carbing. I still eat junk every once in awhile because I still like to enjoy my life. I now weigh 130 and my mother keeps asking me if I am bulimic! No mom I answer I eat well. Whenever I eat breads or pasta's I try and go with a whole wheat instead of a white flour choice. I have realized carbs of an item minus the fibre intake in the that item so foods high in fibre are still good for us!.. I chose to eat alot of eggs, did an all egg white for 2 weeks because too much yolk is not good for anyone.I drink lots of water, and try to drink two cups of green tea a day. I also enjoy spearmint, and peppermint tea. I avoid potatoes rice and corn because they are all strachy foods, and try to stick to the leafy green veggies, and carrots, cucumber, celery, califlower, mushrooms, and green beans. I lost 20 pounds in two weeks by cutting out all fruits for the first week because they contain natural sugar. I only drank water and green tea. I ate fish chicken eggs pickles olives cheese tuna, and veggies. Condiments are also high in carbs, and sugars so I avoided using them other than Mayo. Hellmans mayo has 0 carbs in it and is great to mix with tuna. I did not excercise when I lost this weight just changed my eatting habits. I have managed to keep the weight off a year and trust me it is noticable. I have a busy schedule now so get my excercise through my daily schedule I do however plan to get a gym membership this winter to just have another thing to keep me occupied. While I was in my first 2 weeks of low carbing I craved pizza so used the egg pizza reciepe.

EGG PIZZA:

  • EGG whites
  • pizza sauce
  • cheese
  • mushrooms
  • green peppers
  • chicken
  • green olives
You pour an egg white carton into the bottom of a pan stick it in the oven for 10-15 mins the eggs bake and than you pour pizza sauce on it and chop up all toppings you want on your pizza and top it off with cheese, and than bake for 5 more minutes.

When I heard of this reciepe I thought it was be awful but it was amazing, and loaded with protein! I want to mention when you are low carbing High protein levels are great aswell because with barely any carbs, and lots of protein your body turns into a fat burner. I did not watch anything but the carb intake on items for the first two weeks, and than started introducing fruit to my body again! It worked for me give it a try :) Good Luck!

Sherbrooke Quebec & Anxiety

Today my girlfriends family is taking me to Sherbrooke Quebec  for her grandmothers 75th Birthday. I woke up at 7:00am pretty excited but still a little nervous to go. I have only met family that lives close at this point, so I am aware I will be seeing many new faces which makes me nervous. The road trip from Prescott Ontario to Sherbrooke is 3.5 hours, so I managed to take lots of road trip photos and write a little on the drive. We got to Sherbrooke at 1pm, and me and my girlfriend decided to do a little site seeing in the little town. We went into a very old unique book store because I love books, an antique store, and a nutrional health store. I had been looking into the supplement Maca forawhile now so I was intrigued when I found it. I asked the women what she knows about the product and it was exactly what I knew, so I went ahead and bought it. The woman told me it would balance out horomones, give energy, and stabilize periods..just what I need! After that we went to her uncles house where we were sleeping and got ready for the party. At 3 we left for the party to get there before dinner and to see/meet family. When I walked into the big country house her other uncle owned I felt so out of place, I felt like people were staring at my hair because I'm selfconcious about it, and I remembered I forgot to take my anxiety Ciriplex today. With Pcos being a extremely frustrating condition because it affects so many areas of our lives I have developed anxiety. Hormonal changes caused by pcos could possibly be the cause of my anxiety, or it may be the elevated levels of testosteron that affect my mood that make me more anxious. People that are diebetic also have cases of anxiety, and due to the similarity with this and pcos Insulin Resistance is also thought to be a possible cause of anxiety. My symptom has created me to be anxious, and that is the hairloss symptom I experience. I am told over and over I am crazy by my girlfriend that I have plenty of hair, but as any other woman I can tell I've lost a sufficent amount of hair. Probably at least 50% of the hair I did have. I used to have extremely thick hair and now in some spots I can see through my hair, and this makes me anxious and depressed but I try to cope the best I can. Many other symptoms can cause anxiety such as weight, hair growth, discolouration of skin, unfertility, and acne. Due to the fact I am at a family gathering I realize there is not much I can do but just be myself. I started mingling and getting to know her family which made me relax a little, and enjoy myself. By dinner time I no longer wanted to run out the front door, and leave my girlfriend there I felt more comfortable. If I am feeling anxious in a place with less people I would of tired to do some anxiety reduction techniques or occupied myself. After the party ended we went back to her uncles and two of her cousins came. We ended up playing XBOX Kinect which I totally recommend for anyone trying to fit more excercise into there day. I played a dance off game, and wipe out both of these games made me sweat. Right after the game we went straight to bed because we were so tired out from our long day. I had a great time in Quebec.

Druken Night

I woke up yesterday to call into my factory job at 6:30 am to see if I had a shift.. the answer was no! I find it to be extreme bullshit because I am hired fulltime at Proctor and Gamble, and have to call in on my scheduled shifts. I was pretty upset just because money this month is tight as is. I went about my day doing me time, and consuming myself with things I like such at video games, tv shows, and writting just to not get stressed out about money. It was not until 2pm when I got the call to go into the group home that I was happy about my day! I got to work with the youth because the home needed two staff on because of one of the girls behaviours the night before. The night went by fine when I was there until 11pm. The girl with the bad behaviours was fine with me. We buried a squirrel she had found, and went to tim hortons to get teas (mine was green :) ) When I was done at 11pm my girlfriends friend Jacob was back home until Wednesday so he wanted to drink. Now I am aware that it is recommended to avoid alcohol while using metaformin because the next morning side effects are brutal (this I know because I had previously experienced them myself) but I decided to drink anyway. Doctors tell patience with pcos to drink in moderation, and trust me I cut down because I used to drink both Friday, and Sat of every weekend, and now it is only one night a month other than the casual ceasar at restaurants. From my understanding alcohol is dangerous while on metforming because you are more likely to get dehydrated or devolp liver problems. I do find I am more dehydrated the next day that's for sure. I will admitt, I am one of the girls that gets drunk off a few beers or shots because of these medications, I find it hard to believe that some people on these medications have a hard time getting drunk. I guess that just goes to show that everyones case of Pcos is different. Besides the issues with alcohol and metformin, alcohol also contributes to a disturbance of hormonal balance which is part of pcos, and causes extreme blood sugar imbalances which contributes to insulin resistance another huge factor in pcos. Last night was fun for me and well needed but trust me when I say I will wait a little before getting wasted again because my head was throbbing today for 5 hours after getting up, and I could not go back to sleep which sucked. I did not throw up this morning like i usually do, so that was a plus. I do no recommend anyone who still likes to enjoy a drink just to quit because of pcos but drink moderately. Me myself I still love that single glass of redwine every now and than and like I said can not pass up that casual ceasar. With Pcos we were told to give up or stop doing so much, but I believe if we do it in moderation differences will show. My question for everyone is :If we have to give up so much, what can we do? I'm chosing to not let pcos take over my whole life..I  hope you are too!

Confronting Stress

Woke up today at 7:50 am that was only 6 hours of sleep. That is more than I usually get, and go figure I am always tired.  I dont understand if always being tired has to do with my medications, the fact I don't do too much physical activity, too much stress, or the fact I am getting my period every 10 days. I have been taking birth control this time since it started again Friday, and I am trying to force it to leave. I'm aware being tired is a symptom of this disorder (pcos) but I hate always feeling like shit because of it. Being tired also contributes to me being moody throughout the day and the lack of energy I have. As of right now I am taking 2 vitamin D's, 3 Biotin 1000mg's, 1 multivitamin, 1 B complex, 1 vitamin E, and have just started taking an iron supplement daily. Ontop of this I am severely stress out, and as of today I am trying to implement stress reducers into my daily habits. Time management. That is one of my big stressors considering I am always busy. I work two jobs, go to school, and have a serious high demanding girlfriend ( I am a lesbian, newly out..met in college after my 5.5 year relationship with my highschool boyfriend was getting worse and worse daily.) I also notice I have a hard time letting things go which will contribute to stress, so i am deciding to work on that. The tip I am trying to implement in to my lifestyle is " devolope a forgiving attitude& give people chances." The thing that bothers me with this is the fact that since college in January 2011 I decided to just forget people because I was always getting hurt. My friends ment the world to me for about 15years and about 3/4th of them screwed me over constantly or at least once in a major way. I now have a hard time trusting people, however I am trying very hard with my beautiful girlfriend that I believe was my angel and she came just when this disease, my friends, and busy life style were wearing me down. I guess this tip means giving the right people  chances will reduce stress. The problem with that is figuring out which people are the right ones. I am guessing the right ones are the ones that will not contribute to your stressors of life, and genuiely care for you. Another tip that got to me and I thought was very logical in helping relieve stress is, Do something for someone else everyday. Due to the fact I am trying to fix my life I have begain considering these stress reducers today and I have stared applying them. I woke up today and happily drove my girlfriend to work for 8 am, came home bathed our 2 dogs, and three cats, also cleaned her mothers whole main floor of the house. I am aware her mother is stressed with her own concerns daily which at times contributes to my stress, so I decided to help her out. I feel good about helping her out. As of right now I have decided to have me time and relax and do one of my hobbies writting. I am drinking my first cup of green tea for the day which I try to get two cups a day in because it is suppoused to reduce stress, and help pcos symptoms. Stress for me everyday life is money, work, school, girlfriend, friends, this syndrome, and family or lack of my own family. Now I am just figuring out how to correct it all taking it day by day.  I want to heal and relieve symptoms from pcos, and I know that means correcting my hormones which is balancing emotional issues, excercise, healthy eatting, supplements, stress, and sleep. This is my attempt to heal myself, and help others with my information. This will allow me and others to still live a good life being happy living with PCOS.
